In 2016, we constructed a temporary roof structure for a garage located on East Auckland’s affluent Paritai Drive.
Our client didn’t have room on his property for the garage; in keeping with the neighbourhood, it was as big as an average-size house. What was his solution? Well, he decided to purchase a neighbouring property and demolished the house to make room. Simple.
Temporary roof structures, which consist of scaffolding and shrink wrap, are not usually necessary for new builds, and we normally build them for recladding work. However, construction was during the middle of winter, and the garage featured a roofing product with a substrate that needed to stay dry.
For us, it was important to build the structure at the beginning of the building process. If, for example, we’d started halfway through, unless we were lucky and had built the standard scaffolding the right way, we would have to dismantle everything and start again.
Apart from it being winter time, the garage, which stood on a cliff top, took quite a hammering from the wind. We had to brace the structure extremely well for the three or four months that it was there to ensure it didn’t collapse.
Our client got his ‘garage,’ and his roofing product’s substrate stayed nice and dry.
It was a job well done.
